Ask your Assemblymembers to secure our right to clean air, clean water and a healthy environment

A Green Amendment would help secure a livable future for New Jerseyans, whose right to clean air and water is not adequately protected by our current laws. Everyone should have the right to live in a healthy environment and a stable climate, including future generations. A New Jersey Green Amendment would guarantee this right.

I am writing today to thank you for co-sponsoring the New Jersey Green Amendment, a piece of legislation that would guarantee a safe, livable future for all New Jerseyans. I urge you to do all you can to place the Green Amendment on the ballot for this November.

The Green Amendment (ACR80/SCR30) would amend Article I of the NJ Constitution to recognize the environmental rights of the people of New Jersey by protecting the "right to a clean and healthy environment, including pure water, clean air, and ecologically healthy habitats," for "both present and future generations" -- a concept that I strongly support.

According to a Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind Poll, 83 percent of New Jersey residents believe that the right to clean air and clean water should be protected by the constitution. Similar Green Amendments have been successfully used in Pennsylvania and Montana to protect the health of people and their environment. And the New York Legislature has just placed the Green Amendment on the ballot for this November.

It is crucial that residents of the Garden State have the opportunity to vote on this measure in this year's election. Our future and the future of New Jersey youth cannot wait. I urge you to do all you can to place this bill on this November's ballot.
