Tell your state senator to electrify school buses today

Every day that we allow children to ride to and from school in diesel buses, we are putting them at risk. Diesel school buses are toxic to human health and polluting our air and climate. Diesel exhaust is known to cause and exacerbate asthma, heart and lung disease, and lung cancer, and children are especially susceptible. If we want to reduce our impact on the climate and put public health first, we need to focus on electrifying diesel vehicles like school buses.

A bill was recently introduced, and just passed unanimously through the Senate Environment and Energy Committee, that will start to electrify school buses all across New Jersey -- but it won't get passed without your support. Let your state senator know that you support electric school buses.

Senator Diegnan recently introduced a bill, which just passed unanimously through the Senate Environment and Energy Committee, to transition the state's fleet of school buses from dirty diesel fuel to clean, electric school buses. Diesel school buses as we know them are toxic to human health and pollute our air and climate. Diesel exhaust is known to cause and exacerbate asthma, heart and lung disease, and lung cancer, and children are especially susceptible.

Replacing diesel school buses with electric ones will make a huge dent in air pollution, making our children healthier and our air cleaner, while reducing our climate impact. In fact, if we were to replace every school bus in the country with an electric bus, we could avoid an average of 5.3 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

The bill will jumpstart this transition by providing $45 million in funding to 18 school districts each year for three years to purchase new electric school buses and the related charging infrastructure.

Please co-sponsor and pass this electric school bus bill. It's time that we put the climate, children and public health first.
